Alan's Achievements
My two terms have been eventful.
The achievements of which I am most proud include:
- Forging consensus on the Lynn Valley Library/Town Centre project through a concerted and thorough public engagement.
- Re-energizing the Lower Capilano Community Program development phase through the establishment
of the Steering Committee and by engaging the community through an extensive series of Public
Forums, Open Houses and Focus Group sessions.
- Initiating the establishment of the North Shore Transportation Advisory Committee consisting of all 5 North Shore communities.
- Initiating and securing funding for the Sunday opening of our 3 Libraries
- Initiating and garnering support for the District's adoption of the 4 Guiding
Principles of The Natural Step process towards ultimate sustainability.
- Introducing the District of North Vancouver Grow-Op bylaw that places responsibility on Landlords to know how their properties are used and gives District Fire and Building personnel the power to ensure public safety.
- Introducing the Anti-Graffiti Bylaw on behalf of the Federation of North Vancouver Community Associations.
- Introducing and garnering support for the motion that recognizes the link between the occupation of Firefighting and certain cancers. This will enable quicker determination of causation of illness by WCB.
- Forging a new long-term lease agreement with the Deep Cove Yacht Club that will give it security and ability to undertake costly maintenance of the upkeep of their facilities.
- Encouraging developers to meet early on in facilitated sessions with affected neighbours where "hot buttons" are identified and solutions achieved through constructive dialogue before embarking on the sometime long and arduous Public Hearing process.
- Championing the rejuvenation and seismic upgrade of the Capilano branch of the District
Library system.
- initiating the establishment of the Community Planning Working Group to develop our new Official Community Plan
- Adopting the new Cosmetic Use of Pesticides Bylaw
